STEP 1: Choose a single malt. There are many varieties to choose from, and rarely do two malt drinkers agree on which is the "best" drink. Some varieties to try are Speyside malts, which are usually a bit sweet, and Islay (pronounced "Eye-La") malts, distinguished by a salty, s...

Was at base this weekend & stuck my head in the package store. Checked out the scotch selection and came across these. Just wanted to get a run down at what I was looking at from the pros. An interesting whiskey. Not a single malt, it is made by Jim Beam. The name comes from whiskey mythology: the Angel's share is the whiskey that evaporates from the keg during ageing, the Devil's Cut is the whiskey that soaks into the wood of the barrel. When the barrel is emptied the wood is pressed to ex...

I finally got to try this at my wife's office Christmas party last Sunday. It was at a bar called Burbon and Branch in the Tenderloin district. There is no sign, just an ols wooden door and a buzzer. Either the 12 or 18 year old is nice. I love the hint of cherry in the finish. Prices have been going up like mad as well, best to get some soon. It is worth up to $60, I usually pay between $45 and $55. Best to be sipped, this is for occasion only (like any day ending in a 'Y') Been to Scotland, spent about 4 d...

I stopped by a local Scotch store the other day and found that they were selling bottles of Glenmorangie - The Original at $59.95. A bit steep as they normally go for $40 a bottle. The kicker was that they are 1.75 liter bottles! 4 to a case. We bought a case on the spot. Should last awhile.

In a shaker half full of ice pour 3oz. of light rum (you can also use dark), 1oz of Drambue and Herseys Special Dark chocolate to taste. Shake well and pour into a large martini glass and drop in a maraschino cherry. A bit of Scotland, a bit of Bermuda and a bit of sweetness.
