Indead it was a great opportunity for me. A young man that had visited Scotland came back with various bottles of Lagavulin. It was one of the best highlights of the past weekend for me at the Loch Norman Games to sample this 58% strength single malt.
My wife usually only drinks the Irish Wisky's, but she was amazed by this Lagavulin. Yes Lagavulin does have the peat but compared to the 16 year old, this was truly a well balanced bottle.
I will never be able to afford this price but will not forget this tasting.
Hey Coinneach, remember the Laphroaig at Loch Norman a few years ago?? Can you say..."PEAT" ?? The Glenmorangie was good you that you let me sample. I keep the Laphroaig around because nobody here can drink it but me. Hey....that's not such a bad thing. The Lagavulin is really good too. I've had all ages of it and the older is smoother to me than some of the "young" stuff. Tried some Ardbeg recently and altough a little peaty it had some sweetness too. I think I am drawn to the peat and salt of Islay more than anything else, that's just the way my taste is. Slainte !!
I think Lagavulin is the Scotch that one of the bartenders at The Terminal Brewhouse here in Chattanooga recommended - she just likes to smell it. Hmmm. Our anniversary is coming up in August (30th). Maybe that's what we'll have to do - go have some Lagavulin! We can walk home from there - if we're able.

I heard Jim Lovelace went to the tasting on Friday night.
