And welcome to the next website that will be a part of my soon to form internet kingdom-er, no, wait, actually, you never read that first part. No, of course not.

 

Anyways, just found this site, and one thing I learned a few years back was that I'm descended from quite a few Lamonts-under the surname of Black, though. In fact, the farthest (that I easily remember) that line was traced back was a very unremarkable, and probably half-untraceable name: John Black. If you start laughing at how unassuming and positively boring that name must seem, I don't blame you. But, as I said, that's the farthest I can easily remember-going back to, oh, about the time of the Civil War here in the U.S.A., maybe a few years prior.

 

The farthest back I've managed to trace my family, in all, is back to Robert the Bruce, King of Scots, meaning it goes back to Robert de Brus, 1st Lord of Annandale, showing that I've managed to take it far back on one side.

 

Mainly, though, there are two main things I came here for help with: Finding out just how far back my lineage from the Lamonts might go (good luck there), and finding out a bit more from my surname, if anybody wishes to take the time to help there-Brockway. I do believe it's an English name, topographical for a "dweller near the brook." One might even say it's in the name: Brock, close to broc, which meant stream or brook, and Way, the second being even more obvious.

 

Aside from all of that, though, I will offer you a Hello, and forcefully enslave hope I might get to know some of you.

Welcome to the Lamont's site. You have obviously read the information on the home page for the society and the general clan data so from there it is a case of tracing your lineage. Most of the Lamonts were in either the Cowal or Ayrshire environs. The Scottish records are really quite complete as opposed to the US. If John Black was here during the civil war do you know his family came to the colonies? Your tracing seems to be quite in depth if it goes all the way back to Robert du Brus. It would be so interesting to all to see this written out. Are you a member of The Clan Lamont Society? I can look into the Brockway name. More later.

Thanks for the kind Hellos back to me, nice to meet some people.

Tom, to answer your question, no, I am not a member of the Clan Lamont Society, but once I hit 18 I'll probably hop up and join. And I do believe, with John Black, his family came to the colonies first off, but I'm going to have to run back through and check some things before I can be sure.

And thanks for deciding to take time to look into the Brockway name, I've always wondered just where that English heritage will go.

Good to hear. We are happy to find someone at your age looking into the history of "us". We would welcome you into the Clan no matter what your age. Do you attend any Scottish gatherings in your area?

McPherson has a Scottish Festival every year, but I don't think I've seen much for Clan Lamont there, sadly. My family seems to be the extent of the Clan here, heheh.

Well then it would be in your best interest to bear the flag for the clan. It always amazes me how Lamont septs turn up if you have a site at the games. As a host you are always treated well by the venue and you get other benefits besides. Anything we can do to help you just ask. Each of us that host a tent started out really apprehensive and get more confident each time. The commeraderie between the clans is a special bond as any of us can tell you. Just don't get placed next to a Campbell.

Although, I get along well with a few of the Campbell clansmen here in McPherson, so I think I'd be good. : P

Might this be the one NE of Hutchinson?? if so I may see if I can get my boys and their families to come to next years  smile

One lives 80 miles and the other only 65 miles.

For me it is about 537 miles but that would be a nice Friday morning ride    biggrin

I'm fairly certain we're all Northeast of Hutch, and if you manage to get your way over here that'd be nice. The festival, this year, is on the twenty-second and twenty-third of September.
