I am new to the forum and would like to eventually like to figure out if I am actually related to the Lamont's.  My maiden name is Brown and while I have my genealogy traced to who we think is the immigrant, but have not been able to connect to Scotland or Ireland.

Brown is a Sept of :Lamont for sure and several other clans. if you can find the area of Scotland they came from you might be able to see which clan is most likely based on location.

 

another option is DNA testing, the Lamont's have a good study going. If you have a living male from the Brown family, brother, uncle, father, cousin etc you can particpate.
