Hi folks! Thanks for letting me join you distinguished folks! Family history suggests Ulster-Scots roots, but I can't actually prove that yet. Oldest confirmed 4th Great GF William Black arrived in US around mid-1780s in NC Lincoln Co. I'm also confused by my J2b haplogroup, which doesn't seem very common for Scottish or Irish descent. Any other J2b's around? I'll post this in the genealogy section too.

David, welcome to the forum.  There are a few DNA folks here, I think chief among them would be Knockdow.  I'm sure he will be along soon.

Hi David

Glad to see you join us. Black is a very common Lamont name. Lots of us changed are names before leaving Scotland. Let us know how we can help

David,

My 4th GF was William Black from Mecklenburg, NC. Born July 4, 1776, died in 1850 in Lees Creek, Crawford Co., Arkansas. My DNA is R1b1a2.

Yeah I've run into him before. :) I don't think our two Williams were related, but it sure makes research challenging when you have two guys with the same name in the same area at the same time lol. I'm fairly certain that my William moved on to the Cape Girardeau area of Missouri with one or more sons, while the son that is in my line stayed in NC.

My William moved to Clark County, Kentucky sometime before 1805 or 1807 when his son James Black was born. James died in 1864 in Livingston, Missouri, United States while trying to hide his cattle from both sides of the Civil War. After the war the family moved to Texas.

My Young's were in Clark Co KY at that same time but came from Augusta Co VA. I had some Blacks connected to my Gwins but doesn't look to be same blacks
