Thank-you! It was Donald Brown and he and the ancestors hailed from the Argyll area - thanks for the link I will have a look. I am hoping to visit the area next year and stay at a place where there is reputrd to be the ghost of a Lamont so watch this space!
I have Brown's on my mothers side, we may be distant cousins! I haven't quite found where they come from in Scotland, but still looking.
If you are looking for an inn with Lamont ghosts, try the hotel in Kilfinnan. A beautiful, cozy little inn. Owners and hosts Helen and Andrew are the best. The inn is reputed to be the home of several ghosts. My wife and I stayed there for several days, and as I'm an early riser, I was downstairs admiring some of the dispays in the cases and when Andrew came down to open the doors, I think I took several years off of the poor man's life. Good thing he's a strapping young man because I'm out of date on my CPR cert.
Welcome, we are happy to have you here on the forum.
My grandmother was a Brown of Scottish descent, we have not had any luck tracing the family line back to Scotland. We lost track of them in Baltimore somewhere in the 1700's.
I have a kilt made of the Brown Tartan, it is a very distinctive and beautiful tartan.

Thank-you one and all for the warm welcome.......the Lamont ghost sounds interesting Luckey!I just may have to try that place and I didn't realise MacPatrick that Browns had a tartan - but after "googling" it have to agree it is a good'un, as you say quite distinctive. I am also trying to trace the scottish connection, it isn't as easy as you may imagine but will keep trying.
Hi, my name is Christine Towery (Lambie). I am fourth generation American and when I was younger I was told that my Great Grandfather John Lambie married Jeannie Kerr and before they left Scotland they had a son named James. My Grandfathers name was Peter Allen Lambie. He was the younger brother of James. I was wondering if I am in the right location?
More than anything I was wondering if the family story is correct and if anyone knows about a John Lambie marrying a Jeannie Kerr and coming over to the United States with his wife and son. If you want to send me Tom Lambie's email you can send it to christinetowery@ymail.com. As I was saying this is a story my mother told me when I was younger and have now become very interested in finding out about my family history. I work with quite a few Scottish people and they have been helping me to find the proper web sites to search and here I am thanks to them :)
