Thanks to Jim Rapin (Luckey) I successfully received the Lamont traveling plaque this past week. With great honor the plaque traveled to Penn State along with my son and wife where we gently deposited my son for a soccer camp. So, with great serendipity, we took are first 'official' photo on the Penn State campus, on the south side of Old Main next to the 'turtle globe." __________________________________________________________________
Despite the changes of the centuries, however, the Lamont country has an essential sameness in all ages. The natural attractions of outline and of colour are exactly now as they were ever, although the hand of man has made more mark on them with the passage of time. The strong curves of slope and shore, and the deep tones of mountain and sea, are common to all eras in history. Such were the features of the clan territory in the dark of time; such are they still; and such they are likely to remain "till a' the seas gang dry." Long may they be left unspoiled in tribute to the hosts that have gone out from them—and sweart they were to go—across the seven seas of the world, with those bonds in common which have kept them aye a clan.
I should mention that the quote is from McKechnie's "The Lamont Clan" from my first post. And WV photos, well attached are a couple from the front yard taken under and near a stately white oak.
Couldn't help myself. Last post from Penn State with the Nittany Lion...
And another quote from Hector McKechnie's book: "But there is another side to the story, for is treasa tuath na tighearna,"the tenantry are [now] stronger than the laird," although they have passed the bounds of Cowal and indeed many have gone furth of Scotland."
Got to the top of Spruce Knob with the plaque (well almost)...will be sending the plaque on to Richard "Dick" Lucas. For those non-West Virginians Spruce Knob is the highest point in WV at 4,863...

PS Although I am a BIG PSU fan my accidental take with the Lion was purely just that (so I'd rather not start a Big Ten wrestling match...). Although whose to say that a Lion and a Globe do not go together when a Lamont descendant is involved. ;)
May the day soon arise in God's eyes that we may steer humanity on the high seas...
Nice photo indeed, and I have to admit that I am a Badger fan only in the fact that I live in Wisconsin and follow how the Team is doing during the season (Football). My Alum is Upper Iowa University, a division II school which makes me a fighting Pea****, so I too am not looking to start a rivel either although if we are looking to add to the milage of the plaque...one idea would be tohave a picture of the plaque with some form of college mascot either the college you attended or the state you presently live in. Just another idea for those thinking of having the plaque sent to them for photo opps.
I would like to see about booking the plaque next year in the September through November time frame. My wife and I will be spending 5 weeks or so in a camper traveling through Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall and that sasanach place. Should be some good photo opps.
Mr Dubh Your on the list, Looks like a wonderful trip. Becareful in that sasanach place, not sure how the Plaque is likely to react. CLSNA can not be held liable for an indescretions that may take place.

Cool! Hope you can somehow take a photo of it next to the Harp in its glass case. (I had to sneak a picture of it when we were at the museum back in May 2003.)
My wife is an FSA Scot so we will check in advance to see about a visit. My avatar is a copy of the Lamont harp made from measurements made by the harp builder on a visit to the museum. so possibly...
