Lest we forget, tomorrow, May 27th, is the anniversary of Archibald Campbell's execution in 1661 for his part in the Dunoon massacre. Here's to justice!

Not to beat a dead horse ... but let's not forget that Archibald Twisted-Mouth and every twisted mouth starting with the first Lord of Twisted Mouths in 1453 until the 10th Duke of Diamond Patterened Socks in 1949 are buried in Kilmun church which once belonged to the Lamonts.
Rick thanks for the reminder

Yes, and while we remember that infamous period in history, let's also keep in mind that more than a few Campbells married Lamonts throughout the ages so it's very likely that some of us have Campbell blood in our veins as well. Just sayin . .
Jill is right about Campbell blood though most of us wouldn't admit it. I'll have to admit that one of the "scoundrels" shows up in my line about 1720/1723 AD but it took a couple of generations to infiltrate our bunch.

Yes, even though I don't have Twisted-Mouth blood in my line, as far as I know, it seems from what we know of my wife's family background, she does have some several generations back, and maybe only once. But, it seems adequately dilluted as to not cause any problems. We get along very well after almost 31 years.
There's that show on PBS about tracing celebrities' genealogy through DNA. Last time I watched it, they took the several celebrities' DNA and traced back to find common ancestoral lines. One thing they explained was that, as we go back in time, each of us has more and more ancestors, but the thing we don't usually think about is that as we go back in time, there were also fewer people. So the thing is, as unfortunate as it may be, somewhere back there, we have a common ancestor with the Twisted-Mouths.
Of course, those of us who believe the Bible believe that anyway - we have a common ancestor at least in Noah and his wife, but also in Adam and Eve. But even if we don't believe that, this DNA study and the logic of the genealogy family tree shows us that somewhere back there, we do.
However, somewhere down the line, some of that other line went wrong! But, of course, we didn't.

Many of us of Scottish descent have the Campbell blood flowing in our veins. Yes it is is true, there were many Camplbell - Lamont marriages. I am the descendant of one of those marriages.
However. over the past few hundred years the Campbells have melllowed out a bit.

They're an easy bunch to tease too. Several clans had run-ins with the Campbell's.When half the clans at the games are badgering you, you'd better be able to take it.

Is your glee on the execution of the 1st Marquess of Argyle genuine or is it an annual celebration like the burning of Guy Fawkes on November 5th, something you feel obliged to commerate, The Marquess went to his public execution bravely, believing that everything he done was for good of the country and the church., he deserves as much respect as the thousdands of others who lost their lives for whatever type of church they thought was important. A pity it was all in vain.
The Montrose war was brutal indeed, the Lamonts joined McColla's Irish and committed atrocities throughout Argyle's country that warranted a counter attack. The Royalists lost the war and what happened to the Lamonts and others who by misfortune joined the wrong side is what has happened to losers of war throughout history, they were dominated and eliminated by the winner, that was the name of the game back then, nothing new here.
Dinnae judge anything done or said in the 17th century by todays values, remember we are more civilized these days, Mai Lai, Londonderry bloody Sunday, Kosova.......
