Lets support Mary Lambs choice of charities - vote once please

VOTE for Maersk charitable donation. Dunoon Burgh Hall Restoration: Nominated by Mary Lamb. The Burgh Hall project group is working in partnership with John McAslan & Partners to get the hall back up and running over 4 stages during the coming years. The Burgh Hall was/is Dunoon’s most significant civic building and was opened as the centre of cultural life in the town in 1874. The project will deliver a revived cultural centre for the town and wider region. PLEASE CLICK THIS LINK TO VOTE

I am sure mary will announce soon but Clan Lamont has recieved a nice donation from Maersk Lines for the Manse

Maersk, the shipping line which owns the six container ships laid up in Loch Striven, is now in the last stages of organising the distribution of donations it wishes to make to local charities in Cowal and Bute.

As you may know, the BBC has paid Maersk a location fee for the use of the ships as a set for their latest adventure gameshow, Mission 2110 – shortly to start airing the first series on CBBC.

Since December, Maersk has been collecting nominations from local people around the Loch Striven area and has decided on a two-pronged approach to ensure both fairness and accessibility.

So, first: a number of worthy organisations are to receive a donation based on the wishes of those living alongside Loch Striven where the ships are moored. These organisations, in alphabetical order,  are:

  • Calum’s Cabin
  • Clan Lamont
  • CLASP
  • Colintraive Bowling Club
  • Colintraive Shinty Club.
  • Colintraive Village Hall
  • Innellan Primary School
  • Kilmodan Primary School
  • Toward Primary School

the votes are in

thanks to all who voted for Mary's choice, Dunoon Burgh Hall.

I think all the projects are worthy and we should applaude Maersk for making nice with the community. Monday is the day when the dollar amounts are announced.

Here are the results of the online vote For Argyll has run in connection with part of the Maersk programme of donations to local charities and community organisations in the Loch Striven area, where six of its ships are taking time out in the recession.

The results are given in order of percentage of the vote achieved – and these are the percentages of Maersk’s overall donation for the online vote which each will receive.

  • 25%    Rothesay & District Pipe Band
  • 20%    Project recovering Barnes Wallis Bouncing Bomb Prototypes from Loch Striven
  • 18%    Innellan and Toward Family Centre
  • 15%    Isle of Bute Sailing Club
  • 9%      Dunoon Burgh Hall Restoration Project
  • 7%      Toward and Loch Striven Memorial Hall
  • 5%      Cowalfest
  • 1%      Innellan Hall

Sounds like they're trying to create some good out of a bad situation.  Good for them!

Refreshing, methinks. This could have been a lose-lose but it sounds like this company is run by professional who are understanding!!
