Donnie, from Wyvern Leatherworks ( AKA "My Sporran Guy") sent me a blade and a hunk or black walnut to make a handle out of. The wood was from a tree that was cut from his dads yard, which in a way, made me nervous. We worked out a trade in which he is making a new type of sporran, which he said should be complete this week.....I'm giddy.
I LOVE black walnut!! Very nice to work with and it is soooo beautiful when finished. Heres the pics:
This set is after the carving and sanding,

And here it is finished:

Mating with me axe,

Thanks for looking......

I wish I had a talent for crafts. I admire both the beauty and patience it takes to make. maybe in my next life I can come back as a knife maker or wood carver.

Me too!! ;)
I think the key to having a good run as a woodcarver has alot to do with the tools. Don't go down to the local hardware store and get woodcarving tools. Go to a woodcarving store and get the sharpest tools you can. I use Flexcut tools, and Helvie knives and swear by them! I am working on my patience.
