Latest Batch of Kilt Pins
Permalink

I had an order from a Lamont cousin to carve a strap and buckle so he could have it as a kilt pin. He wanted wood ( doesn't like the metal ones ) , and he wanted it hand done. So I did one up for him out of paduak, a awesome red and burgundy swirl wood. Heres the pics:

Since I was in "mini" carving mode, I decided to do a couple more from a few other funky grained woods,
I did these two from olive wood that was sent to me from Israel:
FTL knot...by me:

And swirl:

The last one is one I may keep for me self ( unless I get the "right" offer $$$). It is made from a petrified piece of wood ( as of now I am unsure of the species...I am checking with the person who sent it to me) and was inspired by Ben Franklin:

Thanks for looking.

great work as usual!!

I have a seahorse dragon that gets gets comments every time I wear it.

Petrified wood? can that be carved by normal wood carving or did it have to be machined/chisled like stone?

Thanks!
I used a scroll saw to cut it out, then mini rasps to shape, then different sand papers to smooth.

Ok I can't resist it any longer, the Lamont pin?

MINE!!

Actually I don't have anything against the metal outside everyone has one.  I want something different and have wanted some of Eric's excellent work since I first saw it.

I will be wearing that with more than a bit of pride and at least a little bit of "see what I gotheadbang.gif

Jim

Eric, recieved the FTL knot in the mail.  Looks really great on my Lamont ancient tank.  The wood pins are a nice refreshing change from the metal ones.  The detail work is very nice.  I would recommend them to anyone.  One could wear these pins on any occasion.
