I made these recently as part of a small business / private practice venture. I plan on selling these in local stores and on-line. I thought I would share and get some feedback. You can check out some other stuff on my website.
You might want to check out http://www.ancientwood.com/ and http://www.stabilizedwood.com/wssi.shtml for woods to use.
The first is the supplier I got the handle material the hunting knife the was raffled. The second is my main supplier. Not only is his taste in wood incredible but the stabilization process makes the finishing a cake walk and gives you access to woods that would normally be to soft to use.
Very nice stuff David. Congrats on the site also - very professional. Good luck and I'm sure you'll be getting an order from us soon (we have many candles in the house).
Thanks for the encouragement guys. Since George brought up how nice that would look on his mantle (and I know he nor Jim R. would ever buy one ) I have been thinking. I'd like to do my part to help at some point with donation products similar to Jim's knife. Products that can be raffled perhaps and go to the Manse project.
The problem is the products I am making are not as coveted as Jim's knife and won't generate the same kind of dollars. However, I know who my customer is and it's not you guys . . . it's your wives. Perhaps you could make an argument that the women of our clan might be more apt to donate a raffle dollar on a decorative accessory. I'm not sure.
Maybe a Dunoon Memorial candle base or something? Is this unrealistic? Not feasible? Waste of time?

It has been 13 years now but the chandelier still looks good in our living room. It needs a bit of dusting but I am no longer allowed on ladders so I will have to wait for my wife to be out of the house.
