Knife Raffle for the Manse
Permalink

Here is great opportunity to help preserve an important piece of Clan Lamont history. CLSNA will have an raffle with proceeds going to Clan Lamont Society in Scotland toward their Manse renovation project. The roof has already been replaced and the focus is now to replace the windows.

The manse is a 18th century house that was used as a manse for the Inverchaolain church right next door located on Loch Striven. Jim & Mary Lamb have been working very hard for several years to upgrade and save this important piece of our Lamont heritage.

This summer CLSNA held a raffle in Arlington, TX during the Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games and raised over $200 with a knife made by Jim Drouillard. The money from that raffle went to the Kilfinan Lamont vault restoration project.

Jim has made us another excellent knife to auction off. It is a Gent's EDC (everyday carry), a 6" wharncliff made from CPM154 with mother of pearl handle and stainless pins & bolsters.  (See Below)

100% of proceeds from this raffle will go to Lamont Manse at Inverchaolin window restoration project.
As you know the cost of currency conversion from Dollars to Pounds can make your modest charitable donations disappear in bank fees. Typically the banks want a minimum of $20 so you can insure your donation will be used in it’s entirety by pooling together.

Deadline to get in the raffle is Dec 9th so we can get to the winner before Christmas. What a wonderful gift for somebody in your family plus helping our clan.  Each ticket will cost $2.50, so if you send $20, you will have 8 chances to win this knife that would retail for more than $200

Send your check to

George Young, 4316 32nd Ave CT NW, Gig Harbor, WA 98335

Send me an email oldhiker50@aol.com

thanks for your support

That is a great looking knife!  As the winner of the previous knife raffle I will attest to Jim's amazing knife making abilities.  I consider myself very lucky to have one of his knives.

The Manse project is a very good one indeed.  David, George, myself and our wives were there last July and Mary and Jim have done a wonderful restoration job so far.  The roof replacement was a big job and the windows are going to be alot of work also.  Because of its historical nature, the manse windows are required to be historicaly acurate when replaced.  This adds tremendous costs to the new windows.  The old windows have to go as it becomes quite breezy in the manse on cold Scottish winter nights when the wind comes blowing down the loch.

Since I won the last knife I will humbly excuse myself from this drawing, however my donation will be in the mail post haste.

Good luck everyone!

Great job CLSNA. I know of a couple of other checks in the mail that have not arrived yet.

Still time to get a check in the mail, Dec 9th is the date of the raffle drawing. I will get the knife mailed out so it could be a nice Christmas present. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Clan Lamont Manse restoration.

Jim (Drac) thanks again for your great workmanship and generosity!

My wife and I just got home from a visit to the Great Dickens Christmas Faire in San Francisco and found that the knife had arrived in today's mail. It is an awesome piece of work! Thanks Jim and also George for getting it to me so quickly. It will be put to good use on a daily basis. And I am glad that we managed to send a good bit for the Manse project.

Thanks from Scotland

Hey gang got a great email to pass on to you

Dear George, I would like to thank all the members of the CLSNA for their kind donation to our window appeal fund and the interest they show in the Society in Scotland. I had the opportunity to see the wonderful  knife made by Jim Droulliard, which was auctioned for our fund andI would ask you pass on my sincere thanks to all involved in this wonderful gesture.

I see the old Manse at Inverchaolin as not just the home of the Clan Lamont Society in Scotland but as the spiritual home for Lamonts across the world, so it means a lot to us to receive this money.

I would very much like to take this opportunity to wish all the members of the CLSNA a very Merry Xmas and a prosperous New Year and we look forward to seeing any members who will visit us in 2010.

With my best wishes.

Robert Lamont

President of the Clan Lamont Society

A very nice letter!  I'm sure we all feel good about helping out, but sentiments such as those expressed by Robert make it all the sweeter.

Thanks George for posting it.
