Am I the only one who loves this?

I got hooked on this when I spent 2 weeks in Scotland when I was active duty in '88.  I didn't have any until I went to the Scottish festival this past spring.  My wife noticed how much I loved it and bought me a case for my birthday.  I have been slowly milking the twelve since than.

I had a cold one at the Stone Mountain games, I like it, it does taste different from the orange flavored drinks we have here in the US.

I rather like it.  The product one buys here in the states is made from, what I understand, is a different recipe than what you can purchase in Scotland.  The stuff you get in Alba is supposed to be really good for a hangover.

I've never had a hangover so I wouldn't knowwink

I love it too! You and I are local to each other so I have a suggestion. This is available by the bottle at the The British Emporium in multiple flavors. If you have never been there it's a great place to stock up on all types of Scottish stuff!

I work in Coppell so it's a short drive at lunch for a thirst quenching Irn Bru! No more need for case load volume for you!

They even have Irn Bru candy!  (Had a sample at a sweet shoppe in Stirling the other day.)  I will drink it occasionally but I'm not real crazy about it.  (Tastes like a cross between soap and bubble gum, IMHO.)  If I'm going to have "pop" (as we used to call it in Michigan) I'd rather have a Dr. Pepper.  wink

That's another accent I though I recognised!  Where in Michigan are you from Jill.  I'm a life-long resident of Saginaw.  It's nice to hear someone say pop and I bet you say drinking fountain instead of bubbler - what the heck is that anyway?  Do you still say "car" and "garage" properly or is that Texas accent creeping in?  If you are ever in MI again and if the time is right perhaps we can get a few folks together and  have a good old fashioned kilt night.

Have fun on the rest of your trip.

I went on the British Emporium web site and I see that they have Ovaltine Original. Is that the old recipe that they had here in the 60’s & 70’s?

Jim, I'm from northern Muskegon County originally -- on the other side of the state from you.  And yes, I think I still say car and garage properly.  We'll have to talk someday and you can tell me if I still pass the Michigan accent test!  ;)  When I do go back "home" my old friends usually ask how I've lived in Texas for so long but don't talk like a Texan!

I have seen Irn Bru in our local Kroger store in Cedar Hill.  They had diet for the longest time and then I asked for the regular stuff and they were able to get some cans of it in.  (This was a couple years back.)

Jim,

I grew up straight south of you in the Tricounty area, mostly Wayne/Westland.

As for the Texan accent, you don't need it you just need to understand the language. Y'all is singular and all Y'all is plural for example.

I would guess the difference in taste has to do with that most countries use sugar in their soda. America uses corn syrup since the late 70's early 80's. Down here in Texas we can get Mexican Coke and man the difference is huge.

I like the Mexican Coke as well.  I usually pick up a cold one when I'm at Central Market in Ft. Worth.  And, of course, the Dublin Dr. Peppers are great!  (For non-Texans, I don't mean Dublin, Ireland!)  wink

If all Y'all ever make it back to the Great Lakes Wonderland (there's an oldie) we'll have to have one heck of a kilt night!

I'll make a note of it, Jim!  Thanks for the invite.  :)

(By the way, wasn't it Winter Water Wonderland that used to be on the license plates?)
