I was bleesed to go to the clan gathering in 08 and really felt I had found long lost family members and it was refreshing to see where my clan lived fought and died.
my kin migrated in 1842 for Australia, a widow and 3 sons I went to the churchs where they were married and baptised
I considered the heart ach for them to leave Scotland for a land on the other side of the world and to know you would never see the western highlands or the argyle or kin again I personally cant wait to go to another gathering again.
I have a question to ask of the forumn please
A freind I made from the gathering was able to trace which branch I came from and I waould like to hear from any one who is of the same branch else where in the world
The researcher established we are the McPhorich Lamonts
Hi Jason,
It was a pleasure to meet you at the gathering. about the McPhorich Lamonts in the Lamont clan by Hector McKechnie. It is an alias name of Lamont- they were found between Ardyne and Dunoon.
Assuming that you have the right ancestors' in Colin Lamont and Agnes McIver {note I have 'er' and not 'or' - have found two children born to Colin and Agnes: JOHN born/baptised 17.9.1797, New or Middle Parish, Greenock and Archibald born/baptised 4.3.1804, Old or West Parish, Greenock. Your DUNCAN appears to have been born between those two children.
Coilin Lamont and Agnes McIver were married at New or Middle Parish, Greenock, on the 6th December 1794. They were both in the Parish when they decided to marry.
I followed on with your line to search for Colin's birth/baptism and found only three Colins' for all of Scotland: The most likely one appears to be that of a Colin b/b 13th February 1774, to an Archibald Lamont and his wife Mary Lamont "in Towardnault". The second and third Colins' were born earlier, in 1757 at Inverchaolain, and 1755 in Rutherglen, Glasgow. I found no record of the marriage of Archibald Lamont and Mary Lamont.
So my friend you appear to be a McPhoric Lamont like me too! My own Lamonts were neighbouring clansmen at Toward.
I could not find your Duncan Lamont and Catherine Leitch in the official records as they were not established Church of Scotland members but were Presbyterian.
Remember and have that DNA test done, or you will be paying for all the drink at the next gathering!!!
Yours John
any assistance would be appreciated in antthing about the branch of Lamonts
Welcome to Lamont Central, we are happy that you are here.
Thanks for posting the information on your family lineage. You mentioned being unable to find the family records of Duncan Lamont and Katherine Leitch and some of the other Lamont families in the records of The Church of Scotland. I understand that many of the early Lamonts were Catholics, I know this is true of my Patrick line.

Jason, a warm welcome to our forum. Thank you for a most interesting post about your lineage. BTW, I had the pleasure to visit Australia for 2 weeks in July of '08. An amazing and beautiful country!
Jason and I spent some quality time in Scotland, a great guy. The airline had lost his luggage but he was able to buy some clothes in time for the chelidh.
Welcome aboard Jason
