Clan Lamont loses a clansman

Gordon William Brown 27 Dec 1933 – 11 Jan 2009 Keynsham, Bristol, UK

As Gordon would have said, the famous Gordon Brown not the infamous Gordon Brown.

Gordon was involved with the Clan Lamont Society of Scotland for several decades holding many offices and duties. He was an architectural & engineering consultant but I knew him as the clan genealogist and jokester.  Besides helping many other clansmen find their family histories, he was able to trace his own family back to Largs, Ayrshire, Scotland in mid 1700’s.

The first time I met him he was telling me of his idea to raise money for the clan. Before he would tell me the idea, I had to promise to help implement the plan in the US.  It was brilliant; we would print the Campbell coat of arms on rolls of toilet paper. “We will really clean up on this idea…. !!” I can still hear him laughing, I thought he was serious.  I really enjoyed his sense of humor and passion for the clan.

Here is a photo, Gordon is on the right. Colonel Lamb on the left. I could not understand a word the Colonel said, his Scot brogue was so thick filtered through his handlebar mustache. Gordon transulated for me.

Please join me in raising a glass of uisge beatha to his honor

George,

It's sad to lose anyone we know, whether we know them casually or quite well.  While I did not know Mr. Brown, thank you for telling us about him so his passing did not go unnoticed in our part of the world.

Jim

If that was Gordons wish I think we should fulfill it. It's not going to be that hard and I think we all would love to have a year round supply of that paper!

Let's talk about that in the O Club.

I'll join you in a glass for Gordon. May he rest in peace.
