I have read the letter and searched other sources and cannot find the answer... are the first names of the brothers kown? Particularly, the one who changed his name to "Lamb."

Not that I have seen. I find these type of stories always have some truth amonsgt the folklore, when the truth is finally sorted out not everything is 100% as it happened. Things get a little embellished along the route. This story is pretty well documented. Let's hope some more details get dicovered.
