A number of us have expressed interest in attending the Gathering 2009 next summer and I think some have already purchased tickets and such.  I know the Clan Lamont Society of Scotland are planning some events and I was wondering if anyone has planned on attending these as well.  Also, is the CLSNA planning anythng in conjunction with the Gathering such as a meet up of Americans be it official or otherwise.  If nothing is already in the works perhaps we could start throwing around some ideas.  It sure would be great to get together with you guys for a dram or six at a pub somewhere in Scotland.

I have my tickets for the event, they are going fast. I also have my room reserved and plan on reserving my flights soon.

Mary Lamb the Clan Lamont Society of Scotland has some preliminary plans for this event. This is from their website
http://www.clanlamontsociety.co.uk/

CLAN PARADE

Saturday 25th July     Clans people will march behind their chiefs and commanders. There will be no constraints on numbers, although only those with tickets  for the event will be allowed to partake. The clan societies shall organise their own group for the parade.  The majestic clan parade will march from holyrood park up the royal mile to the castle esplanade  where a spectacular clan pageant will unfold. Massed bands, piper, and highland dancers will trace the history of the development of the clans through the ages in what promises to be a truly memorable experience, especially for one of Scots ancestry.

Sunday 26th   The gathering and games will continue in the park, there will be Clan tents and entertainment

CLAN LAMONT  will play a big part we shall have a clan tent, we have also booked a large tent to hold 250 people where we intend staging a Scottish show of culture song and dance. The society shall have a Lamont gathering on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th The  aim being to have a focal point for Lamonts world wide to meet, this will be held in the Overseas league in Princess  street

Edinburgh provisional format is.

Friday 24th      Meet and greet lunch followed by a bus tour of Lamont interests.

Evening  Black tie dinner  and Scottish night.

Saturday 25th   Evening  dinner and social.  Time will depend when the pageant finishes.

Further details shall be posted as they emerge. Check the gathering website for in depth details    http//www.clangathering.org

George, what hotel are you staying at and when do you plan on arriving?  My wife and I will most likely get to Edinburgh on Saturday morning, day of the march (wife can only take vacation in weeklong blocks) and we are thinking of staying for two weeks and ending the trip with the Edinburgh Tattoo on August 7th and flying out the next day.  yawn

Greetings from Scotland
We welcome CLSNA to the Clan Lamont gathering and the gathering of the clans in Edinburgh. We invite you and our sister societies to help man the tent, there will be over 80 tents in the tent village. The main Marquee holds 250 people and each clan has been allocated a 55min slot ours has been booked for 12md as yet we have not decided what to do, any ideas will be gratefully recieved we are currently thinking of producing the playlet ISOBELL which was done in 2006 or a fashion show.
The parade starts at 7.30pm followed by the pageant which will finish at 11.30pm therefore the evening social has been cancelled, we are thinking of having a buffet running for three hours in the afternoon so that members can come and relax prior to the parade as it is going to be a long day.
The Clan Lamont Pipe band from Holland shall lead us in the parade. We are hoping that the tent will be a focal point for members to meet and greet.
To Jim I say the overseas league is being used as a meeting place why don't you meet for a dram there.
To one and all I say if you are coming to the Lamont events in the Overseas league please let me know I need numbers. I will apraise you of the time scale and final programme in the next few weeks. Tickets are going fast.
Kindest regards
Mary Lamb Secretary CLS

Mary so great to see you join us here.

For those who don't know Mary she is the heart and brains of Clan Lamont Society in Scotland serving as secretery & treasurer and so much more. Mary and her husband Jim live in the Manse at Inverchaolain and have been renovating it in their spare time. They also have resptred the cottages which are rented out as a income soruce for the Clan. The events she puts on are first class, the playlet Isobel that was preformed at the 2006 AGM was brilliant. Isobel was the ghost sister of the Clan chief James Lamont during the 1646 massacre. Isobel confronts and torments the ghost of the Duke of Argyll. The brilliant use of historical facts was woven into a great dramatic event.

Can't wait till July to see what Mary has planed for us.

Mary, first of all, welcome to the forum, I'm so glad you joined us here!  Secondly, thank you for the warm invitation to join all the Lamonts at the  Overseas League as well as the tent after the parade and later events - please count on my wife and I being there.  Are there any specific times set for meeting or is it an informal drop in?  I've heard so much about you from George, I can't wait to meet you.

So, my question, since we won't be able to make it to this event, is this - is it possible to buy a copy of the play to see about putting it on here in the States?  Or has it been video-taped, and if so, can one purchase a copy of that video?  (And is it multi-regional?)  This sounds like an great way to portray these events.

My husband and I have attended the Highland Games in Waukesha WI for the last couple Labor Day weekends and decided 2-3 years ago that The Gathering 2009 would be a destination goal for us. I am VERY pleased to say that it is coming true! All the arrangements have been made, reservations, etc. We leave Wisconsin on Friday, July17, arriving in Edinburgh in the afternoon of July 18. We leave on the 19th for a bus tour of Scotland, returning on July 24, staying for The Gathering. We leave Scotland on the 28th. We had kilts made (finally) - he is wearing the law enforcement plaid for me and I am wearing my wonderful Clan Lamont kilt. I am so-o-o very excited. My heart sings thinking about it.

Sue, how wonderful that you and your husband will be attending the Gathering!  My wife (Sue) and I are planning things opposite you in that we arrive on the morning of the parade and are staying on for a while to do our touring.  However, I'm sure most if not all of us will hook up sometime on the weekend.

Check out Mary's earlier post on the schedule of events - it's a packed weekend.

Looking forward to meeting both of you as well as everyone else.

P.S.  Welcome to the forum!

Sue,
Greetings, and welcome from a fellow Wisconsinite!  I envy you and your husband being able to travel to Scotland.  I am sure that you will have a great time, I unfortunetly I do not have the funds or the resources to make that kind of arrangement.
I noticed that the "Milwaukee Highland Games" are being held on June 6, 2009 in Wauwatosa, is this the same event that was held over Labor Day Weekend? confuse.gif  I am planning on attending, this is the first time I am attending an event like this, and I will have my youngest son with me and maybe my wife.  If your around we might run into each other.  smile.gif
Any ways, Welcome to the Forum

Did we ever get a copy of the video. I remember seeing it at some point in 2006 or 2007 but do not have a copy.
