I'm not entirely sure yet of my Lamont family connections. But I'm hoping that perhaps I may find some clarity here.
Here a synopsis of my bio: My ancestors are the Nichols of KY and VA. In 1755 in Staunton, Augusta, Virginia, Joseph Nickell married Barbara McCombe. Barbara may be the daughter of Rebekah Young, who may be the daughter of John Young. This John Young seems to be from Antrim, settled in Augusta, VA. I'm joining your forum in hopes to find a connection from Rebekah to Andrew Lamont Young, and contribute to the genealogical discussion of the Lamonts in America.
Hi David,
Looks like possibly two connections - Nichols and Young.
NICHOLS:
Our Nichols are in VA, but appears a group went westward - KY, MO after the death of a husband. One of the sons stayed in Alleghany Co, where my family came down from. We can't get back father than the husband, who may have come from Scotland.
David Baily / James Nichols
B: 1802 possibly Scotland
D: 1852, Mallow, Alleghany Co, VA
Wife: Mary Ann Nicholson
B: 10 Oct 1814, Rockbridge Co, VA (a bit south of August Co, VA)
D: 10 Jan 1893, Canton, Lewis Co, MO
She took most of the children and moved west after the death of her husband.
M: About 1832 / 32.
We are trying to confirm the full / correct name of David and his ancestry as we're pretty stuck at this point.
YOUNG:
We also have John Young, 1729-1793), born in Larne, Antrim Northern Ireland who immigrated to Virginia.
One of his daughters, Susannah Young (1750-1842) is our Young / Lamont connection. I don't see a Rebekah in their family group though. There were several boys in the family so Rebekah's father may be a sibling of John Young, or a child just not listed.
Would love to know if you come across a Susannah Young and I'd be glad to let you know if I come across a Rebekah Young.
