New to all this, but trying to establish

Greetings from Florida,

My wife and I will be traveling to Scotland this autumn, so in preparation for the trip to the ol' ancestral country, I did a basic Y37 test.  It came up with two 0 distance level matches, once in the US, who has the same spelling as mine, except without a capital, (I am LaMons, he is Lamons.) and one that is a Lamont in Scotland.  I've actually already been in contact with the US match and we discovered we are indeed family. His ggggrandfather and mine are one in the same, but we are both stuck a couple generations further back than our common ancestor.

In my Y37 testing I am a 3 genetic distance from a John Leslie Lamont at Isle of Skye in the 1700's, but we can't find the missing link between my gggggrandfather Mordecai Lamons of NC in the very late 1700's and his alleged father, John Lamont, again allegedly of Isle of Skye.

Anyone out there with work in this geographical area in relation to the Lamonts?  We would appreciate any guidance that you may have. In the meantime, I am going to upgrade to Y67 to see if that shakes things out a little more.

Here's to finding that missing information.  Can't wait for my wife to stop calling me "almost Lamont"!

Welcome to the forum, I checked my 37 marker and dont see you on mine. I have done the 67 marker and I have 2 Lamonts there, they are cousins, one in the US and the other is in Ireland.

I am a adoptee and used DNA to find my way here, the gentleman on my adoption records and birth cert is a Lammon, I traced his family back to New York in the late 1700's but I am still looking for a living male relative to see if they will do a DNA test.

as far as testing you may consider the Big-Y test, so far I have a close match there of a Brown and some not quite as close but we are starting what looks like a unique SNP for the clan

Welcome aboard. We will all try to assist you in any way we can. If you would please post any/all pictures form there. Those that haven't been there really appreciate them until they to can visit "the Old Country" as my family call it.

We have long been home from our GLORIOUS trip to the homeland, and are at last ready to share photos and even videos, if that is possible (We actually had an entire morning at the Toward Castle ruins to ourselves, so we go brave and climbed down into the various chambers and photographed and did video too.

Not sure how to go about posting.  (We took about 9,000 photos and a couple hundred videos.)  If someone can advise my wife on how/where to load some of these, we will be happy to share.  I am attaching a photo of the church at Kilfinnan, just to see how it goes

Cool, glad you enjoyed your trip.

I use a site called SmugMug but there are some free sites out there. I think one is called Photo Bucket but it may have limitations on total space or image size, I have not used it in 6 or 7 years.
