You can also try Google Earth. It gives pretty good visual views of most of Scotland. The attached file is cropped from a Google Earth view of Toward Point.
I am at the old manse, Dunoon and surrounding areas next week and getting married there in August. Would you like me to get maps of the area for you? kvnturner@sky.com
Yours aye

I have used both the suggested websites and they are quite good. The google streetview works okay but it does have some areas not available and is also current so nothing as it would have appeared. I did find a picture of my great grand parents home that is still there today in Saltcoats.
John, I am a bit confused. are there 2 Toward Castle's? in looking at Google earth the coord's below show a Toward Castle several miles to the west but it has a lot of building there. Do you know what that building is?
There is a Toward Castle and a Castle Toward. I'm not sure which is which but one of them is a ruin, from the 1646 massacre and the other is a castelated house (but very grand) built much later built (I think) a wealthy Glaswegian.
You can search on "Kilfinan Church, Scotland", "Knockdow, Scotland" or The Manse, Loch Striven, Scotland" in Google Maps to get these views and zoom in.

Ah, you just may be right. The House was sold within the last few years and the CLS tried to convince the new owners to part with the Lamont memorabilia Maybe Sandy might have the answer to that request. He is very good at keeping up with the goings on around Cowel, etc.
Across Loch Striven from red marker "D", was the ancesorial lands of the Lamont sept, MacPhadrick. I had a Lamont cousin who was christened ........McPhadrick Lamont but change his middle name because he thought it sounded too "Irish." Cheeky fellow, that!

On the map that I posted, the one marked Toward is the great house, used until recently as a girls school and I have heard that it has been purchased and may become a resort. I am not sure if that includes the ruined Castle Toward of Lamont fame and Campbell shame.
My wife is a Patrick and when she was in Ireland a few years ago she talked with some of the Irish Patricks who told her the the Patrick family came to Ireland from Scotland.
Hi, long time not speaking. I was sorting out my wardrobe the other day and I came across a bag containing various things. upon inspection I discovered that I had not sent you the stuff from Dunoon all those years ago. So, do you still want them? I can send them if you ping me a msg on here or PM me your address. sorry about the delay.
yours aye

I am the present owner of Knockdow. We purchased the house and estate, mid 2010.
The majority of the contents of the house were sold when the last of the Lamont heirs sold the place in the late 80's. I believe the proceeds may have benefited the Church of Scotland.
When we viewed the house there were some military swords belonging to Alexander Lamont , one of Sir James Lamont's sons who died in battle at Dargai in 1897, hanging in the main entrance hall. That was the complete extent of the Lamont contents.
These were removed by the vendor before completion.
