My name is Madehlinne and I am a member of Clan Hunter of Ayreshire.  I am interested in Lamont-Hunter connections, particularly those mentioned by member Sandy! smile

I ♥ Alba!!

Hi Madehlinne

Welcome to the menagerie.

I have record of four births registered in Inverkip to parents John Patrick and Findwall Hunter :

Archibald b 06 Feb 1710

John b 17 Jun 1712

Normand b 21 Mar 1714

Hugh b 21 Mar 1718

Three of these seemingly returned to the Cowal peninsula around 1730 (I suspect that the family fled Cowal following the 1646 massacre), and married  Janets, (namely Janet White, Janet Currie and Janet Leitch), and had children. One couple lived in Stronyaraig, one in Coustoun, and I'm not sure about the third couple.

I believe that these Lamonts are descended from Neil McPhadrick Lamont, 7th Baron of Coustoun and used the surname Patrick for one or two generations, then reverted back to Lamont. I'm missing final proof of the link to Neil McPhadrick Lamont, but I'm hoping DNA will eventually provide it.

I think there was another marriage between a Hunter and a Lamont, but I'm afraid I don't know the details.

Hunter's Quay is a well-known land-mark in Dunoon, named after a James Hunter, who lived in the 1800's.

Best

Sandy

Sandy-- smile

My earliest HUNTER ancestor is Edward {the Elder} Hunter [those are my designations to tell father and son apart], b. 1696 Daff, Innerkip.  I believe his parents are Malcom Hunter (b. 1675-1680 Irvine, Ayrshire; d. date unknown) and Anna Creswell/Criswell (b. 1680-1682?; d. date unknown).

And it is at this point where I am stuck confuse.  I find Malcom and Anna had 2 sons, whose births I have confirmed through OPR's, and although Edward is listed as having been born in Innerkip, his parents are not listed! hmm

I would be interested if you should discover that your Findwall Hunter is related to my Hunter family from Ayrshire!  Please keep me in mind and let me know!  And should I find anything on your family, I will be sure to notify you.

Regards,

Madehlinne
