Onward to the Fench Quarter and Bourbon Street. The pictures have been edited for the children A couple of local hot spots (disreguard the man in the blue shirt) -
I know it's all about the scotch around here but I can't turn down the rum. Especially Pat's Huricanes -
We just happen to get there while the St Patrick's Day Parade was practicing. Evedently they practice each weekend leading up to St Patrick's Day by going up and down the French Quarter streets stopping at various pubs along the way. Amy and I got drafted into the parade. Here were our inviters -
Head of the parade in more ways than one. The chief and on the float was their own portable potty. At 10am these guys were doing the Irish reputation justice -
We ditched that after a few blocks as they intended to "practice" until 3pm.
The Krewe of Cork had started getting ready (seemed to be a lot of wine in the getting ready process) for their 3pm parade down in the French Quarter. Here is the King of the Cork Krewe. Same King each year but a different Queen. It's good to be the King...
The Pirates of the Cabernet -
More to come as this was just before our 1pm lunch and we have 3 more days...
Nice specialty of the house - a Ferdi Special. A Po' Boy that has their ham, roast beef, debris (roast beef that falls into gravy when cooking, the best part) and gravy -
And on the last day on NOLA we got awaken (rudely) by a phone call at 9am. Ok what person calls at 9am on Sunday. After explaining to him that we were in NOLA at the Mardi Gras he became apologitic.
We skipped breakfast and went straight to lunch. This time in another New Orleans standard - Johnny's. Home of the PO' Boy -
I dove into the daily special - 1/2 boudin with sea food gumbo -
BTW for those who are wondering what Amy eat, it was mostly hamburgers and turkey Po' Boys.
Next on the list of things to do was Mardi Gras World. They do about 80% of the Mardi Gras floats among other things. We got a change to meet the guy who makes all those Chick-fil-A cows for the billboards. Here is John making one now for a new slogan -
Here is the plaque on something about the right size and shape for you guys. Don't know if it is dry or dirty -
Onward and upward to the reason we extended our stay from Sunday to Monday - the Barkus Parade. It is a Puppy krewe!! Took more pictures here than amost all of the others combined. This is her Magesty, the Queen of the Barkus Krewe. Each year the Queen is an adoptable puppy that never seems to make it to the parade before being adopted -
And now winding things down to the end of the trip Amy and I have dinner at Emerils's. Did Dominicos last time we were here so we thought to give the other a try -
Started out with - Homemade Andouille and Boudin with Southern Cooked Greens, Beer Braised Onions, Whole Grain Mustard and Emeril's Worcestershire Sauce -
Moved on to the special of grilled scallops and shrimp -
Finished it up with a slice of the house special, banana cream pie -
Here is the final damage after 3 days and 8 parades -
Hope to pass on the plaque at NTIF if we have a tent otherwise there will be a few pics from there and than on to the next person.
