I found this forum on google tonight while searching the internet about my mothers family and I had to register and say hello.

My name is Vincent Joseph Dasaro and I currently reside in Portland, OR with my wife and 2 boys.

My father is full blooded Sicilian 2 generations removed from Sicily.  His family is very easy to trace back and is definitely not the reason I am here :).

My mother is Belinda Jane Lamont of St. Johnsbury VT.  Her father is Henry Lamont and mother is Rebecca Elsworth (Lamont) of Danville, VT.  This is as far as I have looked as I find myself here at the very beginning of my search.

I did not realize I was Scottish until I was 27 years old.  I am told that my mothers family immigrated to the United States a few generations ago from Quebec.  For most of my life I was under the impression that we were French.  5 years ago my uncle Peter Lamont (The eldest of the 9 siblings) was looking into the family heritage and realized that we are in fact of Scottish descent and not French in any way.

I always felt throughout my entire life that it doesn't make sense that we would be French.  Nobody in my family looks remotely French.  My mother with her pale skin, freckles and flaming red hair looks more like she fell off a Celtic Festival poster than anything else.  All of the men are large strong barrel chested men, a feature I was lucky to inherit compared to the tall skinny frame of the Sicilians.

As I looked into it more I made perfect sense.  We don't look French in stature nor in features.  We are definitely Scottish.

This began me becoming more interested in Scottish heritage though it took me 5 years to finally decide "Hey, I need to look into this more".  I have been oddly drawn to Scottish heritage and culture my entire life though I never understood why.  I guess some things are imprinted in our genetics and whether we realize it or not our ancestry is a large part of who we are.

So here I am making an introduction on these forums.  I consider myself very lucky because from what I have read thus far, I couldn't have found my association with a better clan.

Vincent,

Welcome to the forum, we're so glad you found us here.  You're not the first person to discover they are a child of Alba after thinking they were French.  As for that nagging feeling some of us have before discovering our true roots, it's amazing how so many things make sense after your discovery.  As for me, I could never understand why I was moved to tears whenever I heard the pipes.  And yes, we unapologetically claim to be the best clan to have descended from Niall.

Welcome Vincent!

I'm fairly new to the group and my own Scottish awakening as well.  The whole time I was growing up, no one in my family had ever told me that Lamon was Scottish.  Not even my own father.  Now I think most of them didn't have a clue.

I wish we didn't pronounce the name with the accent on the 'mon' because it sounds french that way.  Now that I'm 47 years old, I'm wondering if it's not too late to tell people to pronounce the name like "Lamb-in" with the accent on the "Lamb." 

At any rate, I'm glad to have you with us.

Cousin Peter!  So good to hear from you!  We have not heard from many Luckey families on our forum so I'm particularly happy to hear from you.  Your spelling is new to me.  There are other variations such as Luke, Lucas, McLukas, etc.  I have some information on my family which goes back to the mid 17th century.  If I can organize it enough, I'll send it along to you.  I'm sure Ken Luckey will have something for you as well.  Check back often and I'll see what I can find for you.

Hello Peter from Germany.

I am glad another Lukei is looking for ancestors. We have so many spelling variations, but it appears that Luc or Lucas what ties us together somewhere.

I have a Y-DNA project on Family Tree listed under Luckey, but glad to accept the other spellings.

Glad you came to Clan Lamont to check us out, there you will find a great big extended family, we are one of four Lamont Societies worldwide.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I've been doing some reading and trying to learn more about the clan origins and geography and such. There is an enormous amount of history so there definitely has been no shortage of things to read.

My wife is also of Scottish descent, though I dare say what descent she is from on these forums.

Here is what I have figured out so far for me.

I am directly related to the Lamont Clan through my Mothers Father. His parents immigrated from Canada to the US. Apparently they immigrated to Canada from Scotland some generations before. I have not yet been able to contact my Uncle Peter though supposedly he has that portion of the family tree completely figured out.

My Wife's Maiden name is Howard which is about as English as it is possible to be. Her Fathers parents are a Howard and a Campbell. We believe that her Great Grandfather was adopted by a Campbell so that would make her Grandmother not totally terrible. There, because of the adoption, that branch of the family comes to an abrupt stop.

Her Mothers parents are a Coots and a Lewis. She was under the impression her entire life that the Coots side was Irish though when we started looking we couldn't find anything that says the coots are Irish. In fact we find more information to show that the Coots are either English or Scottish. Coots is a Sept of Clan Farquharson. Lewis, like Howard, is easy to trace as it is a very well known Welsh name.

Through the Howard side her father has traced the heritage to show that her branch of Howard has been in America since there has been English people in America.

This all put together between the two of us means that our children and REALLY REALLY Scottish, more so than any other culture that is part of our background.

I would be interested to see if I could get my Uncle Peter to do Y DNA. I cannot since my relation is through my mother. My Y DNA comes from a bunch of Fisherman on the coast of Sicily. :)
