Good morning all,

Just finished up another sgian dubh.  This one started to be a trade but shifted over to a commision when they stopped making kilts.  Only thing really different on this one is the sheath.  Most knife makers are the best sheath makers as we spend all our time doing the knives though you have the rare gifted person who just picks it up easily. 

Now my leather working is different from most other knife makers in that it royally sucks...big time.  So on a whole I leave that to the professionals. 

Since older style knives quite often have wooden sheaths and I'm ok at shaping wood I thought I'd give making a wooden sheath a try and on this particular wood it is possible since I got it in non standard blocks.  A standard block is to short for both handle and sheath.  While not perfect it turned out ok I think -

That's just handsome. Beautiful job!

I just lost mine to TSA. I neglected to pack it in the check-luggage and so it was in my hand carry. I didn't know that I had made that error. Anyway, the female agent picked it up and said she had to consult with her supervisor who said no way, even though you couldn't cut cheese with it. No edges at all, just blunt metal. It was, after all, just a replica.
