You can. You just have to take a LOT of pictures to get the one in a thousand that looks like those!

Those are awesome photos!  I've been to or near some of those places but never had the right vantage point (helicopter) or felt I had the time to get to the right spot to take lots of pictures.  (Of course I don't get paid for it either!)  Makes me want to explore other Hebridean islands besides Skye, Iona, and Staffa . . .

some of these photos are made using the same photo taken with different exposures and layered together to give more depth. I have been trying to read up on it and having not much luck

Beautiful pictures - I was reading about this technique in one of my Nikon books, I'll have to look it up when I get home tonight.

These new DLSR cameras will do so many neat things it's difficult for a weekend photographer like me to become proficent in their use.
