Someone posted this here, I believe, at least the first link to the first episode, recently.  These links below are the YouTubes of the BBC's series The History of Scotland, parts 1 & 2.  Some of you have watched some of Part 1 anyway.  Brandy and I have watched all the episodes in Part 1, and I just found that the same fellow who made those available on YouTube has just now put Part 2 up. 

After watching Part 1, though Clan Lamont is not specifically mentioned, Knockdow has posted some information on our relationships to certain clans and kings so one can fit us in in the history presented here. 

I would have made these links active, but that would have been a lot of work.  wink If you copy this to a text file, then you can copy and paste into your browser location box.  Also, FYI, when the YouTube page comes up with the video in it, at the lower right hand corner of the video there is a small box with arrows pointing outward.  Click on this to make the video show full-screen.  The resolution of the video is good enough for it to display nicely full-screen.

Cool! 

One other way to navigate to each one of the links is on YouTube itself.  If you bring up the first one, then click on the name of the fellow who uploaded them (jamgllp I think), it will take you to his "channel" or something.  Anyway, at the top menu click on Playlists.  It will show on the right, then, the two playlists he has which are the videos in these series.  Click on those and it will be easier to get to the actual links for each one.  in fact, here is the URL for that page:

We watched the first in the 2nd series last night.  Veeeery interesting.  Of course all of them are.

You watch all of them in one day!?  ashamed Most of us have to take a few days' break between them to process and absorb them.  I'm impressed.  wink

I downloaded the videos from You Tube, but the video quality, while OK on a computer screen, does not transfer will to a large screen flat panel. So today I ordered the DVD from Amazon in the UK. It is only available in PAL format abd Region 2 (Europe). I bought a JVC DVD player that plays any region DVD and converts PAL to NTSC so it will play on an American TV as we have several Scottish videos and DVDs that are PAL format. I would expect that it will be out in American format after PBD airs the show here.

Just received the 5 DVD set from Amazon UK and they are awesome! And the JVC XVN680B DVD player works great. The DVDs are in PAL (British) format and for Region 2 (Europe) so a multi-region DVD player with PAL conversion is required to play them on USA TVs. But at only $89 for the player it is worth it. Especially as Herself is going to be spending 3 weeks in Cornwall and Wales this summer and is bound to bring back more Region 2 DVDs.

I bought it online. Just do a web search on JVC XVN680B. The prices seem to be about $20 less than they were last month when I bought mine. The unit has the normal RGB and S-Video connectors as well as a HDMI for connecting to a flat panel moonitor.

We watched the last 2 of the 10 hours of the video set last night.
PROs:
The video is awesome as is the music.
They cover a lot of little knows events in Scottish history.

CONs:
They seem to be a bit SNP/Socialist centered.
They leave a lot out. i.e. very little on the Clans and most of that is negitive.
There is no listing of what is on each of the DVDs. You have to startup each one to see what episodes are on it and the booklet, while it does have a lot of info, has different content than the DVDs.

However, overall it is a good set of videos.
