Calling all McPatrick Lamonts
Permalink

Hi All

It is an enduring tradition in Clan MacLaren that although Paterson is a sept of MacLaren, a number of McPatrick Lamonts used the surname Paterson as an alias following the Dunoon massacre of Lamonts.

Some may have reverted back to Lamont, but others may have retained Paterson as a surname.

I've identified some 13 Patersons on the Paterson DNA website who may well be descended from McPatrick Lamonts. However, my reference is my own DNA and I'm only about 80% certain that I'm descended from a McPatrick Lamont.

So.

If anyone in the forum believes they are descended from the McPatrick Lamonts and have had their DNA tested, I'd be most grateful if you could direct me to a website that contains the results of the DNA test so that I can compare.

Many thanks

Sandy

Hi John

Welcome to our group. John Wilson is a long time friend from Scotland who will be an excellent addtion to our history & genealogy. I will let him give his own formal introduction in our welcome room.  He has deep Lamont roots and a interesting connection to Robbie Burns.

John,

Welcome to the forum, is there a website where we can see the results?  I can't help with the Patrick Y-DNA as my Patrick connection is through my paternal grandmother's family.

I am very interested in the DNA studies that show the sept connections to the original Clan names.  There are some interesting sept connection studies going on now.  Clan Gregor is participating in a similar study. The Clan Gregor study is of great interest to me, my ggf Gregory's family line's DNA is the first sept name the Gregor's have found that match the McGregor DNA.  The Gregor DNA study is paticularly interesting because the name McGregor was outlawed and most had to asume new surnames.

There should be some more Lamont sept name blood confirmations found through these DNA studies, they do confirm for certain many of the septs are indeed blood relatives and the sept families are a part of their clans.  I'm sure the Lamont study findings will be similar to those of the Gregor project.

Interesting topic.

Hi McPhorich

Apologies for taking so long. The ones I think may be McPhadrick Lamonts are

36751
110022
143893
149690
23059
24177
25998
71807
89143
20872
116811
147038
32217
42492
79116
80391
85271
99750
143597

Lamont DNA is quite confusing to me. The are a number of different haplogroups, the largest of which seems to be R1b. Included in the R1b are a few with the M222 mutation, which I have. The Patersons listed abouve are all fairly close to me but nowhere near as close as Lamont 94014 who matches me 66/67.

Regards

Sandy Paterson

Sandy,

This is great information, It looks like you have an excellent match with Lamont 94014.  66/67 is about as good as you can get.

Can you give us a link to the website so we can look at the results?

Hello Jim

Yes, of course. It's

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~geneticgenealogy/Pframe7.htm

You'll see a list of DNA project names in a column on the left. It's alphabetical, so scroll down to Lamont DNA and click on it. I am no 55 with FTDNA kit number 118913. The close match (kit number 94014) is immediately below mine.

Regards

Sandy
