How many of you have ever heard of the Lamont Knockamillie castle? Jim & myself along with the wives finally found it.
Knockamillie only has one corner still standing with a window slit in it. The remains are sandwiched between two houses near the Innellan Golf course. This was the property of the Lamonts until the Campbells destroyed it in 1646. It was a 15th century courtyard castle. It is just south of Dunoon along the road to Toward castle. Heading directly south from Dunoon along the shores of the Firth of Clyde, you will first reach the villages of Innellan and Toward. Dr George Mathison, the famous blind preacher, was minister of Innellan Church from 1868 to 1886 where he wrote the famous hymn, "O Love that wilt not let me go".
I have not found much about the history of Knockamillie but The Plaque has now been there!!
