Yes Jim & I made the trek to the Mecca of 3/4 of this forum... Couston... home of the McPhadrick (Patrick) Lamonts. A welcoming party never showed up??
We drove down the shore along the Kyles of Bute and past the ferry at Colintraive on the Cowal peninsula to find this lovely spot. As we rounded the corner we drove up the shore alond Loch Striven. However could not find a sign indicating we had reached this spot but the road was getting very narrow so we declared we had reached Couston.
Not sure why so many Patricks would leave this lovely area?

Yea, what's up with that? You'd think we would have run into a McPatrick on every street corner (of course there were no street corners). But still, I though the place would have been over run by them.
The Patrick's moved en masse to new world in the 1770's, you can find them concentrated in Magoffin County, Kentucky now.
If we had known you were going to be at Couston, we would have planned some sort of a welcome for you. You know, bagpiper, wee dram and haggis catered by the Cowal Tavern.
OK, George where are the rest of the pictures of Couston?

More almost Couston, this trip was 2006 and I was that close to Couston and i failed to make the trip around the corner. It was on my list back then but I spaced out. The other side is the Isle of Bute, this has to be the most expensive ferry ride per mile in the world. I think I paid 40 lbs, it took longer to load the ferry than the ride. at low tide I might have been able to jump it like Evil Knivevil

Ok you wanted to know why we only had time for 2 photos at Couston... You really wanted to know. WE HAD MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO AT THE KILFINAN HOTEL
The hotel had a small problem with the water supply and we had to stay hydrated.
