Promised you some Scottish food but been busy lately so all I've time to knock out were some scones.  They use the basic Biscuick recipe for scones and modified from there.  Funny ting is most people like these better than the average scone made from scratch.  Go figure.

Scones:

2 cups Bisquick
1/3 cup cream
1 egg
1/3 cup additions chopped (can be one, two or none)
Milk to glaze
sugar to sprinkle

Preheat oven to 425.  Mix all ingredients until dough forms.  Turn out onto a surface sprinkled with more Bisquick and need 10 times (this is where I add the additions).  Place in a 8" cake pan lightly greased and floured.  Brush top with milk and sprinkle with sugar.  Bake for 12-17 minutes (17 for my oven) or until lightly brown.  Cool in pan for 10 minutes and turn out onto cooling rack.

First is you standard cranberry topped wit raw sugar:

Second is a bit coffee shop, a white chocolate, raspberry jam one topped with hazelnuts:

Hi James, I LOVE scones. My wife does the Bisquick recipe but adds a few extras like "Craisins" and even pecans and almonds sometimes. Most of the time it's just straight up though, which I really like. I saw your brats on the other page and thought I was going to have to cook some this weekend, they looked so good. We tried them beer-battered and all but we aren't beer drinkers either so we do them just straight but they are oh-so-good cooked over the flame. I don't have an "egg" but heard they work really good. I have a Weber like Richard and it's worked well for about 12 years now. Keep those recipes and mouth-watering photos coming! biggrin

Yep, the cranberries are craisins. Other popular additions are:

Mini chocolate chips
Chopped dried cherries, blueberries, ect
Toffee bits
Cinnamon
Dried pineapple topped with coconut (pina colata)

Plain though with clotted cream (or double cream) and jam is great.

Jim
