There might be more Lamonts but I do know this one line went to France

one line of the Chief's family went to France, this was the branch that moved to St Andrews, Scotland in early 1500's. His name was Allan Lamont. His son Henry went to France in late 1500's

HENRY LAMONT:OF N.M.;C.1562;CITIZEN OF ST ANDREWS AND DIPLOMAT;ADHERENT OF REGENT MORAY AND QUEEN MARY; FEUED ALANHILL AND LAMBIELETHAM; SETTLED IN FRANCE C.1582;MARRIED (1)ISABEL ORME OF MUGDRUM,(2)ELIZABETH MONYPENNY OF PITMILLY;DIED BY 1595.
The Lamonts of France, as well as those of Newton in Fife, and North Burton in Yorkshire, are descended from Allen Lamont, brother of John Lamont, our 10th Chief. He was settled in St. Andrews by 1527, after attending the University there. There he was given the estates of New Milne by the Earl of Murray. His first son, Henry added the lands of Alanhill and Lambieletham, and then moved to France in 1582, founding that branch of the family. He had six sons, four of whom went to France with him. Two of these became officers in the Scots Brigade. The Lamonts were made French Barons in 1621, letters patent being granted to a Robert de Lamont. These traced his ancestry back to Ireland. Also, the arms of the Barons de Lamont show a reversal of the colors of the related Lamonts of North Burton, a white lion on a green field.
Henry Lawmond of Ellenhill eldest Son to Mr. Allane Lawmond ofEllenhill of his First Marriage was twice married, First, to Isobell OrmeDaughter to -----Orme of Mugdrum who bare to him Helen, Isobell andMargaret."
Henry Lawmonth, who wentto France under Lord Colville of Easter Wemyss, to fight in the wars of Henry IV. He had five sons, who were either slain, or settled in France orthe low countries.
Children of HENRY LAMONT and ISABEL ORME are:                   i.    HELEN2 LAMONT.                  ii.    ISOBEL LAMONT.                 iii.    MARGARET LAMONT.      Children of HENRY LAMONT and ELIZABETH MONYPENNY are:                 iv.    ROBERT2 LAMONT, b. Abt. 1572, St. Andrew, Fife, Scotland; d. France.
Notes for ROBERT LAMONT: Mr Robert Lawmond eldest Son to Henry Lawmond of Ellenhill of hisSecond Marriage went to France
                  v.    JAMES LAMONT, b. Abt. 1573, St. Andrew, Fife, Scotland.                 vi.    DAVID LAMONT, b. Abt. 1574, St. Andrew, Fife, Scotland; d. 1604, OSTEND.                vii.    THOMAS LAMONT, b. Abt. 1576, St. Andrew, Fife, Scotland; d. France.               viii.    JOHN LAMONT, b. Abt. 1578, St. Andrew, Fife, Scotland.                 ix.    GEORGE LAMONT, b. Abt. 1580, St. Andrew, Fife, Scotland; d. 1629, Holland.

Maxime,

I have discussed your question with our Geneologist. There is a possibility that you may have a connection but we would need a little more information. She feels that there are a few lines that may route to France (Gaul) particularly depending on where your ancestry leads to. Northern France would be of particular interest. Our Geneologist took Latin and five years of French and knew immediately that Lhomond is likely a French version of Lamont.

She is particularly interested in investigating your case. Can you provide more information on your location and ancestral lineage? If you don't feel comfortable posting that info in the open forum then please let me know and we can make other arrangements via e-mail.

Thank your for your investigations !
I don't know where my ancestors where settled in France in the beginning, but I know that a few centuries ago (around 18th-19th) , they were located in Berry (in the middle of France) but they may come from Scotland to Normandie (North of France) because for 500 years (1295-1995) France and Scotland were "friends", they were linked by a treaty, thanks to that, the Scots could go and live in France without any problems ! So I think it may be possible that in the beginnig my ancestors where settled in the North of France. I'm sorry but I don't have more informations, but I'll make some researchs. I hope These informations will help you all the same !

Maybe the name Lhomond was taken from the Loch Lomond, I really don't know, but I think there might have a link.
