MacTournors or Turners of Luss are descendants of a fugitive Lamont who settled on Lochlomondside, and engaged in the business of a turner. I then began to think about "Toward" and it's euphonic resemblance to "Turner". Turner in Gaelic is "tuairneir", pronounced "too-arn-air". I don't know how "Toward" is pronounced today, but "tow" in earlier times was pronounced "too" rather than "toe", just as "dow" in "Knockdow" is pronounced "doo". It is possible that "Toward" is simply a way to say "place of the lathe turner"

My earliest known Turner ancestor was John Boice (or Bice) Turner, b. 14 Jan 1799, Colchester, NY. According to family tradition, the Turners came from England. When I tested my Y-chromosome at FamilyTree DNA, the closest matches were from Scotland, Ireland, and northern England. At the 37-marker level, two of my closest matches are a White and a Munn. Turner, White, and Munn are all septs of Clan Lamont. I wonder if my Turner ancestors were originally members of Clan Lamont?
Welcome to Lamont Central. Your DNA test results prove beyond a doubt that you are a Lamont. It appears from the surnames listed your ancestors were part of the Clan.

Turners!!!! I hope you can help. While creating my Family's Tree I am stuck on Charles Turner. Born in 1862 in New York. At some point moves to Shelbyville Indiana and marries Dora Jones in 1881. Sometime in between 1881 and 1900 he left Dora and his son Howard. Where he went after that no one seems to know. Nor can I find any information about him prior to coming to Indiana. Anyone got some info for me...
You may want to contact my uncle Steven Turner of Woodburn, Oregon. Let me know if you need his contact. He has been researching the Turners back to a Turner from Scotland in the 1640's and has a pretty extensive set of Turners in the US. He has been tracking via DNA also.
Hello all! I am looking to trace my Turner name and it has lead me here. Any information anyone has and can provide would be helpful! My Father is Paul D Turner born April 3 1947 in Arkansas and his Father was William Chester Turner, I don't know his origin or DOB.
