THE LAMONT TARTAN

September 30, 2013 at 4:27pm

I am fortunate to be of the McPhadrick/Patrick lineage who were one of the oldest cadet families of Clan Lamont.  Originating in the north of Ireland it was easy for them to joint the other Scotia in settling in Argyle and Butte  Their holdings were small by comparison but were not held in fief from the Clan's Chief.  Their lands, as Hector McKechnie noted, were centered around Coustoun (various spellings as usual) which he described as wild and remote. (See Map, @ RCAHMS).  It is to be remembered that five gentlemen of the McPhadricks were hung in Dunoon.  A few of the McPhadrick gentlemen fled and some of their direct decedents are still around.  One, the late Lt. Colonel William Lamont, (see photo), my great granduncle, of whom Mary Black and I wrote about earlier, authored a classic monogram of the Clan's tartan in 1910, entitled, "The Lamont Tartan".  Two hundred (200) copies were privately printed and I have in my possession #80.  I will be more than happy to have copies made (copy-right not in-force).  The only expense will be the copying and postage.  Should you wish to make a donation for my efforts then by all means do so by sending your cheque to Mary Black for the maintenance account of the "Old Manse."  My email address is, liam26@hotmail.com, and mailing address; October thru March:  7731 Double Tree Drive, Hobe Sound, Florida 33455, USA.  Summer:  Rusheens House, Rusheens, Kenmare, County Kerry, Ireland.  Philip Chearnley O'Sullivan.  Lt-Col. USA (ret)  Life member Clan Lamont Society, and member of CLSNA.
