Does the Society have an "official or preferred" kilt maker?

I have never had this question asked. For both my kilts I looked at the quality and fit of the ones they had or on display or on a client. I have one from Celtic Craft of Scotland who used to be in San Francisco and one from a local Scottish Shop who ordered it from Scotland. My suggestion is someone who lets you look at the material as all mills produce small differences and cost varies.

Ask at the SAMS tent, the Highland Dance arrea or at a pipe band tent. There are often local kilt makers within a reasonable distance who use Scottish woven tartan and whose work compares with the best.

Thank for the hints. I asked because there are a couple of Clan Societies that have their own "official" maker.

I was looking at the Clan Lamont Society of Scotland's website and they have Bell's of Dunoon listed in their links. Maybe not the cheapest way to get a kilt or accessories but, how great would a Lamont kilt bought in Dunoon be? I vote pretty darn great!

My Ancient Lamont kilt no longer fits and really can't be altered. I discovered Kathy Lare in New Mexico, she is sewing me a new Ancient Lamont...

Henry. We once discussed at an AGM a market for Lamont materials. If your kilt no longer fits do you have a home for it? If not why don't you put it up for sale. Somewhere there is a Lamont who desires a kilt and might fit yours. Just a suggestion. I hate to see one withering away in a closet.

Knowing the way I am, in 3 to 5 years it will fit again.  My weight shifts every few years.  I am sure I will be wearing the old one again.  I have fat clothes and skinny clothes in my closet... It is now the same with highland wear.

Sounds strangely familiar. I have kilts that fit different "fighting weights" too. I guess that's a good thing. During the winter we all seem to have a little extra protection against the cold.

I had my kilt made to my measurements. Wanted to make sure it was a proper fit. Matthew A. C. Newsome, GTS, Governor, Scottish Tartans Authority, took 6 months to make it, but it was extremely good. He can be reached at www.NewHouseHighland.com.

He provided me with good advice on the material and style of the kilt. If you go his way, let me know how it works out for you. You will need a lot of patience, he is in heavy demand. You might be able to reach him at www.xmarksthescot.com also.

Matt did my first kilt, he used to be full time kilt maker and his backlog was not so long. Matt is super, he answered all my stupid questions

Take a look at website Xmarksthescot.com they have many kilt makers there.
